The Lady Raiders 2011-2012 cheer and dance team was recently announced. These ladies are selected to represent the Richmond Raiders indoor professional football team with consideration of athleticism, showmanship, beauty, charisma, communication and commitment to community. Each of the Lady Raiders contributes nearly 50 hours of community involvement each year as well as serves as shining entertainment during home spring games at the Richmond Coliseum.
In his July newsletter, Mayor Dwight C. Jones took time to commend the organization. He said,
"Being a top city is not an easy achievement and I believe the efforts of civic and private entities certainy bolster the impression that others have of our city. In this issue, I want to spotlight The Lady Raiders - the all-female promotion and performance team for the Richmond Raiders professional football team. I would like to thank the Lady Raiders for their volunteer and public service work in Richmond. This spring they cheered at the start and finish lines of the Virginia 529 Kid's Run tht preceeded the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K. They attended "Healthy Kids Day" at the North Richmond YMCA and kicked off activities at the YMCA Youth Day of Service. Also, they directed the Police Athletic League Cheerleading Camp and organized a prom dress drive for the Cinderella Dreams Foundation."
Directed by Laura Eilers, 6-year NFL cheerleader alumna of the Rams and Chiefs, the 24 ladies are highly visible in the community year-round, supporting charities, endorsing sponsors, and promoting community spirit. During games, the Lady Raiders light up the field at the Coliseum during performances, in-game contests and constant crowd interaction. The Lady Raiders were selected as the 2010 Best Dance Team in the American Indoor Football Association Eastern Conference and have been featured by Ultimate Cheerleaders, Richmond's Grid Magazine and Style Weekly, as well as on radio and television."
Thank you once again to previous Lady Raiders and those who will be involved in the year to come!
