Richmond, VA––The Richmond Raiders Professional Indoor Football Team announced today the signing of three players for the 2012 season, beginning in March. They are Antwun Williams, a 6’2”, 210 lb wide receiver from Virginia State University, Herb Jones, a 6’3”, 205 lb wide receiver from Virginia Union, and Maurice Thorne a 5’10”, 180 lb defensive back from North Carolina Wesleyan.
Gary Criswell, Raiders operations manager, said Antwun Williams is, “a fierce competitor who puts up big numbers and is a go-to guy in the clutch.”
Williams was the Raiders second leading wide receiver last season.
Herb Jones returns for his third season with the Raiders. Head coach James Fuller said, “We are delighted to have Herb Jones back. He was our most improved player last season.”
Maurice Thorne also returns for a third season with the Raiders. Thorne led the Raiders in interceptions last spring with four. Coach Fuller said, “Maurice really came on strong at the end of the year. He became a great play-maker for us.”
The Raiders will kick off their home schedule at the Richmond Coliseum on Saturday, March 10th, at 7 p.m. with a game against the Columbus Georgia Lions. The Raiders have joined a few past season rivals and some new additions in the newly formed Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) for the 2012 season. The team’s competition will include the Albany (GA) Panthers, the Alabama Hammers, the Louisiana Swashbucklers, the Columbus (GA) Lions, and the Knoxville Nighthawks.
